This unique Bengali spice mix is used for all kinds of dishes from the kitchens of East India and Bangladesh. It consists of 5 spices that are neither ground nor roasted.
The mixture of five (paanch) spices (phoron) gives a great aroma and special taste.
The Panch Phoron herb mix is traditionally used in 2 ways:
Roast the whole spice in a pan with oil until you smell each spice. Use this oil as a base for your meat, vegetables or lentils.
Roast the whole spice in butter or ghee and use as a seasoning for your curries or other dishes.
Fenugreek, cumin, MUSTard seed, fennel, black cumin. Without additives.
