The small Kalamata olive is a typical Greek olive, named after the town of Kalamata in the southern Peloponnese. These olives get their high popularity from their recognizable delicious, fruity taste. Kalamata olives have a characteristic black or deep purple colour.
Kalamata olives are a unique product. They therefore have a protected status according to EU legislation. Only those olives from a precisely defined area may bear the name 'Kalamata'.
