Chakalaka is a South African sauce based on tomatoes, onion and pepper, straight from the townships of Johannesburg. Our spice mix is the ideal seasoning for this spicy African vegetable dish. The taste is a combination of curry and tomato sauce, resulting in a rich and deliciously spicy dish.
For our renewed 'chakalaka' we still - obviously - use only natural herbs and spices. No sugars are added, we don't use added flavourings, colourings, glutamates, preservatives, yeast extracts or other additives.
Heat tomato pieces and/or passata in some oil and add the herb mix to taste. You can also add the herb mix directly to the vegetable stew with white beans, for a traditional chakalaka dish.
