Star anise are spectacular stars with a powerful, licorice-like flavor. It tastes a little sharper than aniseed. Star anise is an essential spice in Chinese cuisine and widely used in cakes.

Star anise is used in Vietnamese noodle soup. In India, it is an important ingredient in garam masala. In China it is part of the Chinese five-spice powder.
