Cloves with a warm, rich flavour

Cloves have a warm, rich flavor with a strong aroma of camphor and pepper. Because of their warm, winter flavor, they fit very well in spicy hot drinks like gluhwein, Turkish coffee and winter tea.

Cloves have a long tradition in the kitchens of China, Greece, India, Russia and Scandinavia. They are used in spice mixtures all over the world: in Indian garam masala, Chinese five spice powder, Dutch koekkruiden and the French Quatre Epices.

In North African cuisine, cloves enhance the flavour of rice and meat dishes. In Asia, cloves are popular in curries. The flavor of cloves is an excellent complement to apples, carrots, onions, oranges, red cabbage, sweet potatoes and squash.

Use

Cloves are very intense in taste and smell. So use only a small amount so that the flavor clove does not overpower your dish.

One clove corresponds to 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves.
